Job Title: Senior Accountant
Department: Finance & Accounts
Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer
Job Purpose:
To develop and implement policies, processes, and systems that protect company assets, ensure sound financial operations, support the recruitment and retention of skilled human resources, and oversee general administration of the department, all in compliance with IFRS, national accounting standards, statutory laws, and company’s internal finance policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Control and Compliance: Ensure accurate financial records and reporting in line with legislation, regulatory standards, and internal policies. Oversee transaction postings, monthly system closures, staff updates, and maintain the Accounting Manual.
- Budgeting and Planning: Lead the preparation of annual budgets and business plans, coordinate input from all departments, and present finalized budgets to management and the Board of Directors.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and present periodic financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders, manage end-of-year audits, and support the Annual General Meeting with audited accounts.
- Coordination with Financial Service Providers: Manage and coordinate external consultants and financial service providers to ensure compliance with approved terms of reference and financial policies.
- Working Capital and Cash Flow Management: Approve payments, authorize purchases, oversee debt management, control petty cash disbursements, and monitor stock movements to maintain a healthy working capital position.
- Business Appraisal and Support: Develop and implement business appraisal tools, train staff, and evaluate new business proposals for financial viability, presenting findings to management for decision-making.
- Any other duty assigned to Management Expectation.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting or Finance option) or Bachelor of Business Administration (Accounting or Finance option)
- Membership to a Professional Accounting body (ACCA, CPA, ACA, CIMA) is an added advantage
- At least 2+ years ‘Experience in financial management in a reputable organization.
- Practical experience in using computerized financial accounting packages.
